About Drive Downloads Pro

At Drive Downloads Pro we focus on one thing only: connecting WooCommerce with Google Drive so your digital downloads are delivered
securely, automatically, and with controlled permissions in Google Drive.

Our plugin is not a storage system or a performance optimizer.
Its job is simple and powerful: if you already work with Google Drive, you can use it as the
source of your WooCommerce downloads, with per-order controlled access – without going folder by folder,
sharing and unsharing manually ever again.

What Drive Downloads Pro actually does

With Drive Downloads Pro you can:

• Connect your WooCommerce store with your Google Drive account via OAuth 2.0 using Google’s official APIs.
• Select Drive folders or files directly from the product edit screen using the official Google Picker (no copy–paste of URLs).
• Use those folders/files as WooCommerce digital downloads:
  each product can point to a folder (course, resource library, client area) or a file.
• Automate access when an order is completed:
  • If you choose “Customer only (buyer email – private access)”,
    the plugin grants view/comment/edit permissions (according to your settings) to the billing email in Google Drive.
  • If you choose “Anyone with the link (public access)”,
    the plugin ensures the folder or file is shared as anyone with the link in Google Drive.
  • You can send a Google email notification so the customer gets a clear invitation email from Google when access is granted.
• Revoke access automatically when an order is cancelled, refunded, or trashed:
  • For private access, the plugin attempts to remove the permission it previously granted to the customer’s email,
    so access in Google Drive matches the actual order status.
• Apply security options to your Drive content:
  • For viewer access, you can block download and copy inside Google Drive where supported,
    so customers can view but not easily copy files.
  • Decide if editors are allowed to re-share the content with others or if sharing should only be managed via WooCommerce + this plugin.
  • Add an optional custom message to the Google notification email that explains to customers what they are receiving.
• Optionally require Gmail for private access:
  • Enable the setting to only allow Gmail addresses (@gmail.com / @googlemail.com)
    for customer access.
  • If the email is not Gmail and the policy is active, access is not granted and a note is added to the WooCommerce order
    so you know what happened.
• Control what you see in the Google Picker:
  • Limit selection to only folders, only files, or both.
  • Optionally include items from “Shared with me”.
• Keep your selection clean and consistent:
  • Globally, you can limit folder selection to top-level folders in “My Drive” for all products.
  • Per product, you can enable “Only use top-level folders” so that nested folders or shared items
    are rejected when selected from the picker.
• Customize what customers can do in Google Drive for each product:
  • Use the global default (usually view only).
  • Force Read only for that product.
  • Allow Read and adding comments.
  • Allow Read and edit files when collaboration is needed.

In short: Drive Downloads Pro keeps Google Drive access in sync with your WooCommerce orders,
so what customers can open in Drive always matches what they have actually purchased.

Our approach

We designed Drive Downloads Pro around three core pillars:

1. Automate tedious tasks

Without the plugin, the typical process is:

1. Create folders or files in Google Drive.
2. Share them manually with each customer’s email or via links.
3. Go back to Drive and revoke access manually for cancellations or changes.

With Drive Downloads Pro:

• You keep creating and organizing your content in Google Drive as usual.
• You select the folder/file once from the WooCommerce product editor.
• You configure the access policy once:
  private (customer email) or public (anyone with the link), plus security options.
• From then on:
  every completed order grants access, and every cancellation or refund removes it automatically,
  without touching Drive permissions again.

2. Security and control over downloads

The plugin includes options to:

• Reduce unnecessary public access on the Drive folders linked to your products when using private access
  (customer-only policy).
• Force stricter rules if you need them:
  only Gmail addresses for private access, and safer roles such as view-only or commenter.
• Decide whether viewers can download/copy files and whether editors are allowed to re-share content with others.

We don’t invent magic security layers: we use the official Google Drive API
to consistently apply the configuration you set in the plugin settings,
so what you decide in WordPress is what actually happens in Google Drive.

3. Native integration with WooCommerce

Everything revolves around WooCommerce, not a custom system:

• It works with downloadable products like any other WooCommerce download.
• It hooks into order status changes (Completed, Cancelled, Refunded, Trashed…)
  to grant or revoke access automatically.
• It uses order notes to log what happens with Drive access:
  access granted, access revoked, Gmail-only restrictions applied, or errors.
• It uses the standard WooCommerce download fields – the only difference is that the URL points to your
  Google Drive folder/file instead of a local file.
